A few years afterward quitting his job to pursue uncomplicated longtime dream of becoming a whitewater guide on the Colorado River, antecedent Outside senior editor Kevin Fedarko was approached by his best friend, character adventure photographer Pete McBride, with well-organized bold and unlikely vision. Together they would embark on a 750-mile jaunt, by foot, through the Grand Be greedy, moving from east to west—a travels McBride promised would be “a take delivery of in the park.” Fedarko agreed, unconscious that the tiny cluster of experts who were familiar with this single trek billed it as “the toughest hike in the world.”
